WHAT CLIENTS SAY

In their own words

NR

Nurul Rashidah

Damansara Heights, KL

I commissioned the Light & Space Review for our Damansara house before doing any renovation. The written notes were more useful than I expected — they identified things about how the west-facing rooms get harsh afternoon light that I had just accepted as a given. We ended up making quite different decisions about window treatment because of it.

The 3D renders showing the apartment at different times of day were genuinely valuable. I could see that the living room, which looks fine in the morning, would feel dark and enclosed by 5pm with the furniture placement they initially proposed. We changed the layout based on that, and the final result is noticeably better for it.

Very thorough and patient with my questions, which I appreciated. The specification package at the end meant I could go to contractors with something concrete rather than describing things vaguely. It made the whole procurement process much less stressful. The timeline did run a week longer than initially estimated, but I was told about it in advance.

We engaged them for the full oversight package on our bungalow in PJ and it was the right call. Having them present on-site at milestones meant that a few contractor decisions that would have been wrong — wrong wall finish, wrong ceiling height in the study — were caught before they became permanent. The space is genuinely better for that presence.

What I found most useful was that they did not push me toward any particular look. The conversations felt more like being helped to understand what I actually wanted than being sold a style. The dining room in particular turned out very differently from what I would have chosen on my own, and much better for it.

The Light & Space Review was a reasonable way to start. I was not ready to commit to a full project, and this gave me something concrete to work from on my own. The mood references were helpful for communicating with other trades. I will probably return when I am ready to do the study room properly.

IN MORE DETAIL

Three projects, described

CASE STUDY 01 · COMPLETE INTERIOR COMPOSITION

A north-facing apartment in Mont Kiara

THE SITUATION

A recently purchased apartment with a north-facing aspect and low ceilings that made the main living area feel enclosed and dim throughout the day. The client wanted to open it up without structural changes.

OUR APPROACH

We repositioned the furniture to draw reflected light deeper into the room, selected a warm plaster finish for the north wall to absorb and diffuse what light was available, and introduced a layered lighting scheme for the evening hours. Mirrors were positioned to extend the perceived depth of the space.

OUTCOME

The client described the finished apartment as feeling twice the size of what they moved into. Completed in 7 weeks. The layered lighting scheme was cited specifically as something they use every evening.

CASE STUDY 02 · DAYLIGHT-TO-DUSK OVERSIGHT

A semi-detached house renovation in Bangsar

THE SITUATION

An older semi-detached property undergoing a full interior renovation. The client had experienced a previous renovation project where decisions were made without their knowledge and the result diverged from the original design. They wanted oversight they could trust.

OUR APPROACH

We conducted site reviews at six key milestones and maintained direct communication with the contractor throughout. Several on-site decisions — including the height of internal openings and the joinery finish in the master bedroom — were redirected to align with the agreed specification.

OUTCOME

Completed in 11 weeks. The client moved in without any significant rectification work — a relatively rare outcome for a renovation of that scale. They described the process as considerably less stressful than expected.

CASE STUDY 03 · LIGHT & SPACE REVIEW

A studio office in Bukit Bintang

THE SITUATION

A small creative agency had just taken on a new office space and wanted to understand how to make it work for focused work and client meetings — two activities with different environmental requirements.

OUR APPROACH

The review identified that east-facing morning light could be used to energise the focused work area, while a corner with consistent diffuse light was better suited for client presentations. We also noted that the ceiling lighting was creating a flat, shadowless environment unconducive to any kind of meeting.

OUTCOME

The client used our notes to rearrange the space themselves and to brief a lighting supplier. They reported that the office felt measurably different — and that client meetings were noticeably more relaxed — within a week of making the changes.
